About

An injectable cosmetic filler called Sculptra can be used to replace lost facial volume as a result of age or sickness.

It contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic compound that is biocompatible and promotes collagen formation.
Deep creases, folds, and wrinkles can be treated with it to make the skin appear more youthful.
In HIV-positive individuals, lipoatrophy, or facial fat loss, is also treated with it.

In 2004 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Sculptra for lipoatrophy repair in HIV-positive patients.

For the treatment of severe facial wrinkles and folds in immune-sound patients, the FDA granted approval for Sculptra Aesthetic in 2009.
